Moving from work "in the field" to work at HQ

Would anyone like to share their experience moving from long-term NGO work in the field to more of a "desk job" at HQ in the U.S.? The culture clash, office politics, environment, work philosophies, etc. can all be significantly different. How do you transition from taking a lonely dirt road to work each day to fighting the gridlock of D.C. traffic?
